Introduction
Do you think the Hanseatic league is history? We dare to state that connections in the Hansa region have never been so close. Strategic relations in Northern Europe are converging between cities, regions, businesses and knowledge institutions. In the Groningen conference ‘Hansa reinvented’ we bring together these ‘triple helix’ partners in order to further connect strategic cooperation relations in the North Sea and Baltic Sea region. Northern Europe will further strengthen its European and international position by working together. In this two-day conference you will learn from best practices in triple helix cooperation, you will be able to discuss with European policy makers on the Baltic Sea Strategy policy, you will meet interesting cooperation partners for business. Networking is an important ingredient. 

‘Hansa reinvented’ is organised by the City of Groningen, the Province of Groningen, the University of Groningen, the Northern Netherlands Provinces and Nordconnect. Strategic partner is the Baltic Development Forum. Businesses, such as NV De Nederlandse Gasunie, support this event. The European Commission DG Region has selected this conference as ‘Regional Event of the Open Days 2009’. The conference consortium is strongly advocating the sharing of knowledge and the exchange of views on developments in Northern Europe. This consortium has supported the conference financially, therefore keeping the conference fee relatively low.

Targetgroups
Knowledge institutions, businesses and representatives of local, regional and national governments specific from the North Sea and Baltic Sea region. Participants from other international regions are,
of course, very welcome.
